LAWN CARE ADVICE
-
Fertilizing your property is a necessary lawn care task to ensure your lawn has proper nutrients for healthy growth.
Fertilization provides a slow release of nutrients that promoting new leaf, cell wall development, and root growth. We recommend fertilizing in the spring, mid-summer, and fall.
The best time to fertilize is before watering your grass or a rain storm to help spread nutrients across your lawn.
-
Aeration is the process of strategically puncturing holes into the lawn to improves nutrient absorption, root growth, and air flow for optimal growth. In time, it will result in a fuller, thicker, greener lawn.
An aeration service works best during spring to maximize the effectiveness of fertilizer and lime treatments.
-
Normally weekly lawn mowing is the rule of thumb.
During spring months lawns tend to growth faster but we recommend avoiding cutting more than the top third of the grass length.
During droughts or dry weeks take into consideration that water is held in blades of grass and refrain from mowing until a successful watering to prevent damage.
-
Always have sharp blades. Dull mower blades tend to rip the blades of grass instead of cutting them.
Damage from dull blades can cause stress to your lawn and leave it susceptible to disease.
Avoid mowing during wet conditions as it can clog your mower and cause damage to your lawn from
ruts and burns.
-
It varies depending on your lawn and the weather. Generally your lawn will absorb 2-3cm in each watering. If you choose to water, we recommend doing so during the cooler parts of the day (evening or early morning) so the lawn has time to absorb the water and spread to the roots.
Overwatering can flood new lawns and seeds causing stress on your grass, killing the seedings, and washing away useful nutrients.
If it has been a particularly dry, hot week or you see brown, yellow, or dead grass, watering and fertilizing these parts can often revive it in a just a few days.
